Globalstar Coverage Map
Whilst the launch of the new satellites will provide service improvements and reasonable quality of service in 2007, it is important that new customers wishing to connect to Globalstar do so with an understanding that there may be service gaps that vary with time and location and that these gaps and the incidence of dropped calls may increase during 2008. We understand that the uncertainty around the future medium term service quality will be of concern to new customers. In recognizing this, Globalstar Australia has decided to remove the 24 month minimum term obligation on the Gstar55 and higher plans for all new customer connections. The $200 connection fee for customers connecting to the Gstar35 plan will also be waived. Globalstar Australia will continue with this policy until such time that we have greater certainty about the future quality of the Globalstar service.

GlobalstarTM is the only integrated Cellular (CDMA or GSM) and Satellite mobile phone service that puts regional and remote locations all over Australia well and truly on the map. Working on cellular networks and over Satellite providing users it provides coverage right across Australia and its surrounding waters, out to New Zealand, New Caledonia, East Timor and up to 500 nautical miles into the Southern & Indian Oceans1.

Signals from a Globalstar phone or modem operating in Satellite mode are received by Globalstar’s constellation of Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites and relayed to ground-based gateways, which then pass the call on into the public telephone network.

As a result, Globalstar is able to provide cost effective voice and data services to users who live, work, and travel in areas far beyond the reach of cellular networks.
